Care & Cleaning

Caring for light means caring for matter. Here you'll find simple and safe instructions for maintaining the beauty of Sothis® creations over time.

Light does more than simply illuminate: it inhabits space, defines its character, and preserves its memories. Caring for it means protecting the material—glass, crystal, metal—so that it continues to radiate brilliance, atmosphere, and beauty .

Why it's important: Dust dulls the brightness, alters surfaces, and, over time, can compromise delicate finishes. Regular maintenance keeps spaces more comfortable, welcoming, and safe , preserving the quality of the work over time.

Security (on site)

Our chandeliers are often large in size and installed at height : cleaning is carried out on site , without dismantling or disconnecting anything.

Before you begin: turn off the power , let the sources cool , and use a soft cloth (microfiber) or an electrostatic duster. Avoid improvised ladders: if necessary, use a stable support and seek professional help.

How to clean and maintain (basic procedure)

For decorative lampshades, simply dust with an electrostatic cloth or soft duster; where necessary, wipe with a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with water , then dry with a dry cloth. Do not use detergents : they could dama ge paintwork and finishes.

For handmade lampshades , the gentlest method is the cold air from a hair dryer, directed at a distance to lift dust from the fabrics.

Work on areas near the lamp holders with a slightly damp cloth and extreme caution; never spray liquids directly onto the work.

Guide to materials and finishes (frame, chain, ceiling rose)

Glass, optical glass and crystal

Lightly clean with an electrostatic cloth. If necessary, wipe with a microfiber dampened with water , then dry immediately to avoid streaks. Avoid alcohol, ammonia, and descaling products. To restore shine, wipe with a dry microfiber.

Metal finishes (frames, chains, rosettes)

The same precautions apply to all the finishes listed ( delicate and dry treatment as a general rule):

Polished Chrome · Polished Nickel · Polished Brass · Brass Plated · Polished 24kt Gold

Remove dust with a soft, dry cloth. If necessary, use a microfiber cloth lightly dampened with water and dry immediately . Avoid abrasive pastes, scouring pads, solvents, degreasers, and alcohol. On brushed surfaces, work in the direction of the finish, without over-applying.

Note: If a finish has special requirements (e.g. specific protectors), you will find specific instructions in the documentation accompanying the product.

Traditional sources and LEDs

The cleaning procedure remains the same : the key is to work with the bulbs cold and with the light off . Avoid any liquid near the lamp holders. For replacements or electrical problems, contact a professional.
